Dry

In Martini specs, less vermouth; in wine, low residual sugar.

A dry Martini historically meant one part dry vermouth to two parts gin. Through the 20th century the ratio drifted toward 1:6 and eventually to a rinse. The word today means whatever the drinker means by it; the only defense is asking.
