Aperitif

A light, often bitter drink taken before a meal to stimulate appetite.

Aperitif is the French umbrella term for a pre-meal drink. In Italy the equivalent is aperitivo, a whole ritual built around Campari, Aperol, vermouth, and small salted snacks. The category prizes low ABV and a bracing bitter or dry character — nothing sweet or heavy enough to blunt hunger.
